For the first seven years of my life, I probably would have looked like just another typical seven year-old girl: lots of pretending, playing dress-up, adoring and annoying my older brother. However, there was one factor that made me different than just another little girl. I was raised in a Christian home. My parents’ decision to introduce me to church and to exhibit Christian lifestyles in my home prepared me to make the most important decision in my life and to make it at quite a young age.
It was a night in December after seeing a production at my home church, “The Twin Living Christmas Trees” that my heart was softened to the truth of Jesus Christ and what he did for me when he came to Earth to live a perfect life and die a death that would pay for all of my sins. I understood that without accepting God’s love and forgiveness I would spend my life feeling empty and my eternity separated from Him. I was ready that night to accept Jesus Christ into my life. Sure, I was only seven years old, but the truth of the Gospel is a simple message, even simple enough for a child.
I consider myself blessed because from that day forward I have been surrounded by Christian examples and activities that have encouraged my spiritual growth. The constant efforts of my church and my family to show me Jesus’ love and help me discover His will for my life has helped me to remember to listen to God’s voice and to heed it! There have been many times when I have chosen to do things “my way” and messed up, but God continues to forgive me and give me another chance. The Bible says in Isaiah 30:21,”Whether you turn to the left or to the right, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way. Walk in it.’” Life still has ups and downs, but I am thankful that I can hear God’s voice and choose to walk in His way.
