Patti Hardee

Some of my earliest memories as a child are memories from church. I was a little girl who grew up with a mother who was and is the most Godly lady I know. At that time, my father didn’t attend church with us, so it was just my Mama and me. Because I had grown up in church I had always heard what it meant to be a Christian and I knew all of the right answers. I knew even at the age of six that I needed to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in order to be saved and go to Heaven one day.

I began asking my Mom lots of questions about Jesus, Heaven, and dying when my grandfather, Papa, was sick with lung cancer. She explained to me that God builds all of His children a mansion in Heaven and when He finishes it, He calls us home to live in it with Him. From there, she explained how you have to ask Jesus to come into your heart in order to be His child and that you have to live your life for Him. I continued to question her for weeks and she did the same for me (to make sure I knew why I needed a Savior). One night as she was tucking me in, she helped me pray the sinner’s prayer. I remember talking with Preacher Metters, the pastor of our little country church, and filling him in on all the details of how he could ask Jesus in his heart (like he had not already!). I knew that Christ was in me even though I wasn’t a biblical scholar or understood every verse of the Bible!

I learned as time went on and I got a little older - just because you’re a Christian doesn’t mean obstacles do not come your way! But, I also quickly learned it does mean that God is with you during every single obstacle and will carry you through. I eventually learned the amazing power of forgiveness and mercy through some tough situations and circumstances in college. There have been a few tough times, but God has opened up the flood gates of blessings upon my life! He has given me a Godly husband, precious little boy, a classroom full of children every year that can be molded, and friends that help me grow in my faith. I face each day knowing that whatever comes my way is allowed to come my way by Christ, so it must be okay! Jer. 29:11
