Lydia Alexander

When I was really young, my family was always in church. My sister was involved with the youth ministry at our old church and we went on a weekly basis. However, when I was three, my parents got divorced. My sister was still involved in the youth, but she began hanging around with the wrong crowd and became heavily involved in drugs. When I was about six, my family quit going to church altogether. Things became even worse when my dad left. I was nine, and he moved without saying a word. Life was difficult to say the least. My sister continued with her addiction for years to come, despite our family’s best efforts. I didn‘t hear from my dad again until I was 15.

Growing up, I always knew there was something missing. I just wasn’t sure what that something was. I had a few friends who tried to invite me to church, but one person really invested in my life. My friend, Caroline, invited me to Friend Day when we were 13 and continued to pray for me. Finally, when I was 16, she convinced me to come with her to church more often. I became involved in the youth ministry and discovered a welcoming, loving environment. There was something different about Caroline and her friends. They had something I didn’t. And as I continued to come to church, I realized that I was missing Christ. I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior March 22, 2006.

Since I’ve accepted Christ, my life has completely changed. I have a hope and joy now that I never knew before. Even when I’m faced with new challenges, I find joy in the fact that I will always have the Lord to protect me and give me strength. He will always love me and gives me the hope and courage I need to survive. He is the father that will never leave me, and my Savior who will never let me down. I love to worship and praise Him with my whole heart and I can’t help but fall in love all over again everyday. Christ has given me the greatest gift of forgiveness, and I am ecstatic that I have a home in Heaven.
